A Few Travel Necessities: Essential and Beauty Oils

Slip these natural and effective oils into your suitcase for a relaxing holiday.

Soothe bug bites

Lavender-Spike essential oil will effectively soothe insect stings (mosquito, wasp, etc.) or bites (spider, black fly, etc.) thanks to its purifying and analgesic properties. In cases of minor burns, it can also be used to reduce pain and swelling.

Get radiant skin

Carrot beauty oil is ideal to prepare your skin for the warm summer days ahead. The oil is produced by macerating carrot roots in vegetable oil. Rich in beta-carotene and vitamin A, it softens and smoothes the skin and helps maintain its natural elasticity. Carrot beauty oil can be used as an after-sun treatment to help prolong your tan and promote skin regeneration. Vegetable and essential oils do not protect against UV rays, so make sure to use proper sun protection.

Treat blows, bumps, and bruises

With Arnica, of course! Arnica oil, produced by macerating Arnica flowers in vegetable oil, is the ideal treatment for hematomas. This calming oil diminishes pain caused by blows and reduces the appearance of bruises.

Thanks to its healing and anti-inflammatory properties, Immortelle (Everlasting) essential oil is used in aromatherapy to soothe minor skin irritations, cuts, bruises, and minor burns. It can also be used to alleviate symptoms of eczema and dermatitis. Everlasting essential oil helps blood circulation, relieves bruises and blows, and helps firm the skin. Dilute in Arnica oil to create a perfect remedy for all your minor mishaps.

Soothe muscle and joint pain

If you experience aches, strains, sprains, or cramps after a session of intense, unusual, or repetitive physical activity, these essential oils can help soothe your muscle and joint pain.

Wintergreen essential oil is used in aromatherapy to temporarily relieve muscle and joint pain associated with backaches, lumbago, strains, sprains, bruises, and arthritis.

Balsam fir essential oil is used in aromatherapy to relieve muscle and joint pain associated with sprains, strains, and rheumatoid arthritis.

These essential oils can be used in massages as well: dilute in vegetable oil and apply directly to the affected area or on the entire body. Combine with Arnica oil to create a more comprehensive oil blend.

Long trips and heavy legs

Heavy leg syndrome is a circulatory condition that can be cause by prolonged sitting, standing, or excessive heat. If you’re sitting for hours in transit or traveling through hot climates, heavy legs could interfere with your trip.

Evergreen Cypress essential oil is a perfect remedy for this condition. Dilute in vegetable oil and massage on legs up to three times a day.

Rosemary – Camphor type essential oil is also a suitable treatment, and is often used in aromatherapy to relieve muscle and joint pain and to improve blood circulation. It can be applied directly to the affected area or massaged over a larger area, always diluted in vegetable oil.

While many other essential and vegetable oils can be used when traveling, these make a good starter’s kit.
